No matter if you’re revamping your kitchen or bath with granite, this is not something that most DIYers want to take on. Granite is heavy, may need supports installed if there will be a significant overhang and, because granite is an expensive component, breakage can get costly quickly. You’ll get best results from a choosing an installer that has years of experience working with granite and verified testimonials from satisfied customers.

Corvus Construction routinely works with granite and our clients are very pleased with the results and with our affordable installation costs. We can handle your entire bathroom or kitchen remodel or just your counter installation. Whatever you need, we’re ready to help and results are guaranteed.

What Are Your Granite Options?

When you think granite countertops, you likely get a mental image of high gloss beautiful rock and this is true, but there are other important differences. First, granite comes in a wide array of natural colors depending on the quarry locations. Granite is mined all over the world and you’ll see a great diversity of color because of this. You can also get granite in different thicknesses – 2 cm or 3 cm. Thicker granite is costlier, but can span longer distances. Thinner granite will require supports on overhangs.

There are also three different major types:

  • Slab – This is a large single sheet that can be up to 5′ x 9′. The upside of a slab is that you can cover a large area, like an island, with no seams. There is also continuity in the pattern because it won’t be cut into. However, this is the most costly option.
  • Modular – Modular granite are slabs that have been cut down to more manageable size usually in 12” widths. These have a built-in backsplash and bullnose edge. These are easier for a DIY job, but still requires skill to install. These are better for smaller counters like bathrooms.
  • Tile – Granite tiles are 12” x 12” squares and are typically used for floors rather than counters but can absolutely be used in counters. Using tiles makes the surface a little more prone to breakage along grout lines. Quality installation by an expert gives an almost seamless look.
